Well at least that was one thing they had in common.
Valdi found his way to the rooftops often, however it was not so often that he dared to venture so far in towards the city.
He'd long given up on relying on the fortunes of luck, or fate, or any other mystical force to find his way out of Libertas. Valdi knew it wasn't going to happen. Ever.
But that didn't stop him from pretending. If a life of thievery had blessed him with anything it was agility, and Valdi could scale rooftops like a monkey through a canopy; he wasn't strong, but light and thinner than he should have been.
He'd reached the skyline with no problem, skipping from one platform to another with bare feet as black as soot. It wasn't until Valdi had finally found the perfect view that he heard someone call out.
Turning, he could do little but stare in disbelief. Even in the limiting moonlight, Kai stood out like a sore thumb. Valdi managed a nervous smile and waved back.
What is he doing!?

"I have a list of names!" Kai cupped a hand to his mouth and called in that loud whisper once more. "Now get over here before I wake up the entire neighborhood!"

With only slight hesitation Valdi tottered across the tin to the small gap that separated his current standing to that of the next house over. A quick glance down and he faltered again, considering, before stepping back to leap the divider.
There was a loud thud as his heels hit metal before he was running again; leaping, climbing, balancing until he reached Kai's rooftop.
It wasn't until he arrived that the meaning behind the other man's words began to sink in, and Valdi wondered why he'd bothered to move at all.
"You're really that determined," his tone was flat; it wasn't a question. "I don't see why you care. I'm nobody to you, why don't you keep it that way?"

"Don't gotta be that way," Kai relayed with a helpless shrug. "I still meant what I said in the shop that day. I like talking to people, I like meeting new faces, and I like giving a name to those faces. Nothin' sayin' we can't be friends."
