Sindre sat in his truck, just sitting with Kai. The only move he made to exit the car was pulling the keys out of the ignition. He forced himself to look closely at Kai, something he had avoided since he first picked up Kai at the airport.
For one instant, Sindre thought it had all been a cruel joke. That it was actually Søren coming toward him. His brain quickly caught up to him, though, and he realized the figure was too young to be his Dane. Kai truly did look strikingly similar to his cou--brother, he reminded himself.
But he couldn't avoid looking at Kai forever, so he forced himself to face him. And as the younger man slowly paled, Sindre stretched out his hand to touch his shoulder. "Kai..." he trailed off. What was there to say?
His breath hitched, and with a soft sound he turned his head to look at Sindre. The moment their eyes met his emotions met in a fatal train wreck, the walls crumbling down just as tears started to stream down his face. He tried to breathe, finding it damn near impossible with the crushing feeling of everything built up tight in his chest, coughing as though it might release the pressure somewhat.
When it didn't he began to sob openly, leaning across the console to grab tightly onto Sindre in another self-initiated embrace. He pressed his face as best he could into the crook of the Norwegian's neck and clutched to him with everything he had. "Fuck, I hate this!" He 'shouted', muffled by the other's collar and the fact that his voice lacked any strength. "I-I.. goddamnit, fanden, he isn't here! He's not here!"

Shocked, it took Sindre a moment to react to suddenly finding a Dane in his lap. Pulling Kai closer, Sindre tucked his face into Kai's shoulder, breath hitching as Kai's tears pushed him closer to the edge.
He sat there for a moment, just holding on to Kai, struggling to hold tears back. But at the other man's words, he couldn't maintain silence.
"I know," he said quietly, trying to prevent his voice from cracking. "I know, I know, he should be but he's not."
He tried as he might to stop up the well of tears with every trick he knew, though was only able to stifle them, enough to make himself the smallest bit coherent when he next spoke. "S'gotta be in Denmark. S'where his mom is. S'where he needs to be for a little while," Kai reassured himself as well as Sindre, prying back just a hair to be able to see the other's face.
And when he did the weight of what else he had to tell him hit him full on, guilt immediately flooding his face.
"I'm so sorry, Sindre. I know it seemed like he was being an ass intentionally before he left, but.. b-but that's not Søren. He's had a lot on his mind lately. He's been scared for a long while and.. fuck, I know that's no excuse-- but he's sorry. He's genuinely sorry."
