WHO: Chun and Afonso WHEN: Friday, April 1st, mid-afternoon WHERE: A coffee shop next to Liberty News WHAT: They meet. If only it were an April Fool's prank instead.
Turning in the paper on Emmanuel Diaz had taken a little longer than Afonso had expected--his boss had stopped to chat him up about her own workload, or something else ridiculous, and Afonso spoke with her, not realizing the time.
And then he remembered he was supposed to meet Chun.
Well, shit.
Hurriedly excusing himself from the conversation, Afonso hurried down the stairs from the fourth floor of his office: at least the coffee shop was right down the stairs.
Afonso spotted the well-dressed man standing outside and had to stop. Whoa. He'd grown up a lot. It was strange, to see his tiny friend suddenly a young adult; Afonso suddenly felt very, very old. Shaking it off, he jogged up to the other, grinning. "Sorry I'm late! Got caught up in work."
Chun had dressed nicely, if only for the fact that he always did. Standing in front of the coffee shop as a haggard-looking Afonso came out, however, made him feel as if he might've overdressed.
Looking annoyed, he raised an eyebrow. He was about the same height as the other now, something that gave him pleasure. "Yeah, you don't look good. Things must be pretty busy."
Staring at Afonso after so long, Chun felt kind of glad there was someone familiar in this city after all. To hell if he'd show it, though. "You've got an ink stain on your shirt, it looks tacky." His Chinese accent sounded harsh against the other's calm, lilting voice. "Let's go in."
He strutted into the cafe without a backwards glance.
Sorry this took so long |D; I've been travelling! foundtheindiesApril 3 2011, 05:08:48 UTC
"I work at a newspaper, what do you expect?" Smiling, he caught up to Chun and clapped him on the back. Man. Well, kids grew up, Afonso supposed. He just had to keep telling himself that to feel comfortable again. Yes.
Afonso led him to the table where he had interviewed Antonio before, sitting in the booth and ordering a black coffee. "Everything's really strong here, so be careful about what you order, alright? It'll knock you on your ass."
/took even longer no problem bro~ <3betting_lifeApril 5 2011, 04:53:21 UTC
"I doubt it actually would," Chun snorted, looking at the menu. He was never that big a fan of coffee, since he preferred tea--chai, to be exact. But coffee was modern, western; he ended up choosing a latte.
Once the waitress left, he shifted in his seat. "Do you come here often?" he asked, wrinkling his nose. He wasn't good at small talk.
