WHO: Marcella and Maha WHEN: Saturday, January 22nd 2011. 2:00pm. WHERE: Indoor Pool - Liberty Fitness and Recreational Center WHAT: Marcella teaches Maha to finally overcome her fear of water.
Maha took a long, deep breath, then another one just to be sure. Her heart pounded loudly in her ears and she could feel her stomach coiling in on itself as if she had just swallowed dry wood. This is ridiculous, she thought, trying to be annoyed at herself, There is nothing to be afraid of. People all around the world swim every day. It's natural. I can do this. With a start, she realized that she was standing and staring vacantly into space in the middle of the locker room, clutching her normal clothing tightly in her hands. Swallowing hard, she carefully stored them away in the locker and took her sweet time in folding each garment, as if taking longer to get there would reduce the torment of actually getting in the pool

If the pool had not been so empty that day, Marcella might not have heard the soft pitter-patter of light feet across the tile floors. She looked up and righted herself until her feet were planted firmly on the pool's bottom.
"Ciao, hey there!" She called out with a smile and waved. "Are you here for the lesson?" She waded through the waters toward the girl, whom she found was very pretty as she drew nearer. The green-eyed brunette seemed a bit too overexcited that someone had finally arrived, as if she'd been waiting for a good ten years or so.
"Come on, come on over here by the steps." She beckoned the woman with a friendly tone and encouraging smile. Sitting herself down at the steps that led into the shallow end, she looked up at the pretty tanned Egyptian. "I don't think I've seen you before. You must be here for the first free lesson, huh? What's your name?"
"Come on, don't be shy, get in." She smiled and patted (which seemed more like slight splashing) at the step beside her, gesturing for the woman to sit.
Maha jumped visibly when the cheerful (perhaps TOO cheerful) voice drifted over to her. She turned her attention to the adorable brunette with the megawatt smile that was waving excitedly at her from the shallow end. She cringed slightly at the splashing but summoned her courage and stepped in the girl's direction --albeit with a distinct lack of enthusiasm.
Blinking at the barrage of questions and greetings that greeted her, the Egyptian nodded, dipping her chin a little shyly. "Yes," she said slowly, with a distinct Arabic accent, "You are the teacher? From the forms that were posted around town?"
She swallowed as she approached the edge of the water, eventually slowing to a total halt about a foot away. Even though she could visually tell that the redhead was sitting in shallow water that couldn't drown a 5-year old child, her legs didn't seem to want to be any closer. "I-I..." She fiddled with the edge of her straight hair, wondering vaguely if she should've tied it back. "I've never swam before."
Wahh, sorry. This GB muse is hard to harness. D':ketchupkaperJanuary 24 2011, 05:54:26 UTC
Marcella blinked when she heard the smooth dulcet tones that came from the tanned woman's lips. Why was it that everyone in this town had some sort of foreign accent? Oh well, at least it didn't make the green-eyes brunette feel isolated seeing as she had a slightly noticeable accent as well. And in fact, she found the woman's voice to be quite a perfect match to her beautiful and exotic figure. "Uh, don't find this strange or anything, but your voice is really pretty! Where are you from?" She smiled, blinking up at the woman

Maha had a very, very hard time looking away from the water. It was mesmerizing in it's clear, blue beauty, but at the same time, it was absolutely terrifying. She stared at the water, then at Marcella, then back at the water. "I-I am from Egypt," she replied eventually, when she was sure that her voice would not crack. "We do not swim much there, the Nile is full of crocodiles and is..." she swallowed harshly, "very dangerous

"Whoa, really?!" Marcella's eyes widened when she heard Maha's telling of a far-away land and rivers and crocodiles. And then she understood. She blinked once and exhaled, as if deflating herself a bit to seem less intimidating. "I see… So I guess you couldn't do much around the water at home, then. Peccato…"
"Maha..." Marcella repeated softly, still smiling. "Pretty name."
Marcella blinked when Maha hesitated again. "Have to..? Hmm.. Well, the normal Marcella would like to say 'You don't have to do anything you don't want to do,' but Marcella the swim instructor says 'Yeah! You definitely have to!" And she laughed, even though it wasn't an award-winning joke by anyone's standards
