WHO: Otto and Feliciano WHEN: Monday October 11th, 6pm-ish WHERE: Streets of Gallery Square WHAT: Germans look too much alike, as a result Otto gets glomped and Feli is confused.
Work had been dull that day, all of the exhibits set up and little else to do. So Otto had occupied himself with paperwork, not particularly the job that he had signed up for, but it was work, and it paid.
Clearing the street with long strides, Otto reflected that perhaps he should have considered finding a house closer to his jobs than all the way across town. At least it gave him time to think and enjoy the sights, but he was not occupied on the shop windows that glittered with expensive items today. He was too preoccupied with thoughts of curling up with his new book on the old lore of this area.
Until a decidedly thin but masculine body pressed itself up against him and wrapped arms around his waist. The nerve of them. He stiffened in the grip, face flushing against his will, and turned as much as he could to address the one that dared to interrupt his thoughts.
And froze. T-that hair... that face... who... how... could it... what? His mouth was open, stunned speechless.
"Luddy? What's wrong?" Feliciano was grinning as he lifted his face from the broad back. How cute that his fiance was still so shy and awkward in public. "Cat got your- Oh... Oh!"
With a blush that covered all of his face and ears he immediately let go of the man who was most assuredly not his fiance when he saw him this close up. The resemblance was very uncanny though - even his artist's eye had been deceived from afar.
"Mi dispace tanto!" He covered his face to try and hide the blush. How embarrassing... "I-I mistook you for someone else, I'm very sorry!"
How could this be?! That shade of hair, he would never forget it! But that face, those locks, this was certainly his Feliciano! B-but... this was a man!
Otto blushed harder, the fierce red spreading over his cheeks as his eyes fell and he took a stuttering step back before pausing. And why did his heart seize up with the love and longing he had reserved for thoughts of his childhood love at the sight of him? Even if... if they were the same... this was a man! He has most certainly not interested in men in that way.
"F-feliciano?" He questioned in a small voice, unsure, embarrassed, longing and a little bit frightened of it all.
Oh God this man knew his name. How did he know his name? Was he related to Ludwig maybe? Was he visiting? No, because Ludwig would have told him, wouldn't he?
Nervously he looked up, peeking through his fingers and examining the man in front of him. Besides the uncanny resemblance to his fiance there was something about him, something familiar, something that made his stomach churn and flutter. The only time he'd felt like that was when he'd met Ludwig and when - A shy blond boy and small smile. Running in the backyard as the babysitters watched them, grandfather's laughing and talking in the living room. Painting rabbits and laughing. A first kiss as he leaves, promising to come back soon...
"O-otto?!" He was grinning, blush still in place as he hugged the man again. "Is it really you?"
How could he possibly answer that? Was he supposed to just agree, to say that of course he understood, that it wouldn't be a problem to just back off and let Feliciano move on while he was left in the dust? He certainly wasn't supposed to say anything about how he couldn't possibly move on, how thoughts of Feliciano were about the only thing that kept him hoping in that dark and dirty Somolian cell.
His lips smoothed out but he would not let go completely, able to loosen but not remove his grip. "I... of course I understand. My cousin and I are alike enough that he must have made you think..." His voice lowered, sad and a bit bitter. "...that he would be a good replacement for me."
Feliciano paled and his heart dropped into his stomach. "C-cousin?" Well, that explained the uncanny resemblance. There'd never been anything in Ludwig's photo albums though, nothing in the past to say they either of his loves were in any way connected except their looks.
"I... I didn't want to replace you Otto." He was finding it harder and harder to look up. How could he meet the eyes of the love he betrayed, especially in the home he shared with the cousin he'd replaced him with? "I had no way of knowing you'd ever come back... E-everyone said you'd probably forgotten about me, found someone else and would stay in Germany forever." He bit at his lip, "Don't question it, if I wasn't with Luddy... I still love you and I'd come back right away, but I can't."
"Why not?" He threw back without the hesitation that his inhibitions and sensibilities normally forced on him. "Love, yes, I get it. But if you can love us both... then the nature of love isn't so inflexible that you have to stay away from me."
He couldn't believe he was saying this. But it certainly needed to be said.
"O-otto. I'm engaged to him!" How was he supposed to defend his choice to stay with Ludwig when all he could feel was sadness, confusion and guilt right now? Feliciano pulled away, standing up and pacing, arms crossed across his stomach as if that could stop the squirming in there.
"We've been... A lot of things have happened that are tying us together. He's been there for the really, really bad Otto, I can't just leave him!" How could he leave the man who proposed to him, protected him, amidst gunfire? Who held him after he came back from his grandfather's no longer bloody but still scared?
