Stalking was such a horrible choice of word. Mei preferred to think it as intense following to make sure that her future husband was safe and sound. Whatever, those people had never felt the love she was feeling and of course, they didn't understand ( ... )

Oh the bottomless springs of a pure maiden's eyes! Thera's crocodile tears, false pearls though they were, had never failed to prick holes in the woman's heart to make it bleed and Mei's misted confession stabbed yet several more in the straining organ. Made Atthis bite her lip to conceal a wistful gasp.

She steadied herself with a swift, fervent conviction that if she were to act even slightly unchivalrously toward this girl, she would allocate all executive decisions regarding the running of her apartment to Thera for one consecutive month.

The very thought of what havoc could be wrought was enough to still her arms from inching around the slender, tiny figure. A girl in distress was a girl in distress and no matter her want to comfort, or if the story of a dying uncle was even truth, Atthis had to help her ( ... )

The crystalline droplets gathered at the corners of Mei's eyes were dabbed at by a soft handkerchief. The rogue strands that had fallen into her face were tenderly brushed away.

Nails painted the color of sea foam scraped delicately through her silky hair, eerily soothing like the pacing of Atthis's voice. It sounded perhaps like the faint roar of the ocean through a conch shell, the rush of wind in the curve of an ear as she murmured reassurances under her breath.

"Sir," Atthis began again, and now her tone was of steel, harder than flint. Heated. Liable to burst into flame if the man did not tread carefully. "I am more than willing to accompany this young woman and see to it that no underage drinking transpires. Now is there a heart in that hollow barge of a chest or is yours a cargo-less vessel?"
