Brother's creepy entrance

Apr 11, 2010 12:36

WHO: Valdi, Sindre
WHEN: Backtracking to April 10th, early morning
WHERE: Their Charleston apartment
WHAT: Valdi wakes up to find he has a new room-mate
RATING: F for First -Impression Fail.

It mustn't have been later than 4 or 5am when Valdi (unwillingly) woke to the sound of shuffling in the next room. Shuffling that, by all logic and reason, should not have existed. There was no one else in the apartment, no one staying with him- well, not until his brother's indefinite trip home came to an end at least.

For a moment the boy did play with the idea that Sindre had finally returned, if not only because it was less frightening than the alternative. But the Norwegian would have called ahead or something, right?
Wait...when was the last time he checked his email or phone?

Tentatively Valdi pushed the covers back and crawled out of bed, puffin hooked tightly under his left arm for emotional support. He was gowned in matching green-and-white striped pjs that his mother had unashamedly bought for him, clothes he wouldn't be seen dead in outside of his own company.
Well that and whatever uninvited guest had decided to interrupt his sleep.

Creeping silently towards the door the Icelander recalled all the attacks and misfortune that had befallen people in this city, and wondered half-heartedly if he would become the next case.
The door handle creaked as he pried it open- so much for going unnoticed.

There was definitely another figure in the room, and they either had a suitcase of stuff to unpack, or stolen goods to make off with. Valdi prayed silently for the former.
