Back in the Dark Ages, was it Alan ("He is survived by his wife") King who was author of a humor book with that (or similar) title?

Yes! The book is "I'm a Prisoner in a Chinese Bakery!" I had that and the follow-up - "Anyone who Owns His Own House Deserves it". Not sure why my little Texas Catholic ass loved his abrasive New York Jewish humor but I did.
