Georgie’s fingertips seemed to tingle with the loss of contact. “Fine. You know, at your age you probably should know how to cook.”
“And at yours, you should still be living on beans on toast and takeaways,” Petra shot back, now splitting the food on to plates. “Wine’s in the fridge, if you want to feel grown-up.”
Within seconds, Georgie had located the bottle, and with the fridge door open she stopped and looked over at her, eyebrows arched. “‘Wine’?”
“Okay, champagne,” Petra grouched, shedding her oven gloves. “Some of us thought an effort might be appropriate.”
“I apologised, didn’t I?” Georgie’s fingernails made short work of the foil on the top of the bottle, and she twisted open the little metal cage over the cork just as Petra put two flutes down within her reach.

“You’re not naked,” Petra pointed out, quite reasonably.
“I’m closer than you are,” Georgie retorted, now perched on the rim of the tub in just her underwear.
“You wear more layers,” Petra said calmly, and tested the water temperature, leaning past Georgie as if she wasn’t there. Excellent. She turned off the tap.
“Petra. Take that bloody dress off or I’ll do it for you.”
“Oh, it’s like that, is it?” But after a moment’s challenge, she wriggled it off and folded it, and added it to the little pile of clothes. “Better?”
“Much better,” Georgie purred, and stood up to kiss her ( ... )

“Don’t be ungrateful,” Petra said with a broad grin, and dabbed her eyes dry with a flannel. “Sit up so I can wash your hair.”
Grumbling, Georgie complied, and soon found herself almost in Petra’s lap as shampoo was lathered gently through her hair. Minutes later, when Petra was slowly stroking conditioner through it, the very last of her irritation ebbed away, and she sighed contentedly. Then Petra’s hands, slippery with conditioner, began to massage her neck and shoulders, and it was as if her bones had melted.
“Hmm,” Petra mused after a few moments.
“What?”
“To think. I’ve been going to all that effort, when all I had to do to get you to make those lovely noises was wash your hair.”
“You...” Indignantly, Georgie gritted her teeth in resolute silence. She hadn’t even realised she was making those noises ( ... )
