This anon has finally caught up with the Clameron press conference and its merry banter between the two of them. There's a point where David talks about them having dinner together, Nick interrupts to clarify it was a takeaway kebab, and David protests that he provided it 'very generously ( ... )

‘Happy New Year,’ Nick said on answering the phone, and David laughed.

‘I thought we’d done that bit.’

‘Well, I’ve been saying it all day; it just came out. I can retract it if you’d like.’

‘No no,’ David grinned; as always, within five seconds of speaking to Nick he felt much more cheerful. ‘Happy New Year to you too, again.’

‘Haha. What do you want?’

‘Oh, that’s charming! I am the Prime Minister, you know, you could show some respect.’

‘Sorry. What I meant to say was, how may I help you, Prime Minister?’

David twirled the phone wire around his fingers. ‘Weeell... actually it’s not exactly, um, when do you get back?’

Nick laughed. ‘Don’t you know‘Erm,’ David felt his cheeks heating up, despite the fact Nick was currently not in the room, but hundreds of miles away, and definitely couldn’t see him. ‘ Is it tomorrow, or the next day ( ... )

Everything was prepared. It was possible that David had abandoned a few urgent things on his desk in favour of sneaking up to check on the braised duck, or to stir the rice. Finally, about half an hour before Nick was due to arrive, he had given up on work entirely and now he stood in the kitchen, fussing with the perfectly laid table. Timing was everything. In fact, he should probably give the duck just another minute or so, and then turn the oven off to keep it just warm enough until they were ready ( ... )

He pulled open the oven and smoke billowed out, and he coughed, his eyes filling with tears. He tried to grab the tray, and burnt his hand. ‘Ow! Oh anon, you took my prompt and made the perfect fill - really loved the way you showed Nick's comments not meaning to be nasty but always needling and poor David just wanting to impress him for once and a very believable happy-ish ending.

Lovely, lovely stuff in short, and I am a very contented OP :)

Ah, that was so sweet. Political machinations aside, I sometimes think they really are besotted with each other (in a platonic way) and you made both their insecurities very realistic. Now, of course, I want more. :)

I think - hope - that certainly by 2015, after spending all that time together, they really will be sort-of-in-love-in-a-mostly-platonic way. It must be nice for each of them to have someone around who is just like them (party leader, similar families and background etc) and understands how they feel, politics aside.

Also i reckon in RL DCam loves having Nick as a Deputy because he is SO AMAZING and does half his work for him haha :D
