In honour of this being the fifth post
I chose to write the opening like this
-Pentameter, but not at any cost-
Write not about a hug, a shag, a kiss.

Will write about how lovely I do think
You all and awesome your artistic skills.
If you are looking for some fic, this link,
Will bring you to the page with all the fills.

So the latest BBC slashfest has got me wondering how the 2015 election's going to go. I want fic in which Nick and DCam exchange awkward texts as they set off on the campaign trail; they're BFFs by now and it all feels very weird. Then come the TV debates, and they have go disagree with each other to highlight differences between their parties but are excessively polite about it. Labour leader of author!anon's choice makes things worse by being in full-on anti-coalition attack mode - bonus points if Nick and/or DCam leaps to the other's defence without thinking. Cookies and sexual favours if this is a first-time fic in which they've been repressing like crazy for 5 years and all this awkwardness causes feelings to boil over.

Wow, long and specific prompt is long and specific...

Thank you for all the lovely comments and apologies for the delay. This is the side-tracked part, we'll be back on the prompt afterwards. The more he heard him speak, the more David thought Ed Balls was a sore loser and was taking out his narrow defeat in the Labour leadership contest on the government. He was practically shouting at them all over the dispatch box. David glanced at the digital clock above the Opposition benches and wondered if Balls would finish on his own before the first PMQs of the year, or if Bercow would have to shut him up ( ... )

Oh I love this fic, anon! Poor angsty David trying to play politics with a straight bat, George texting merrily away regardless, all lovely. And I see a possible hint of how there can be a happy ending so I'm going to sit back and enjoy the ride.

MORE PLEASE??

I was afraid to get into this fic, wary of an angst overload to break my heart... but it is so well written that it is impossible not to get hooked!
Well done, and am looking forward to the developing story.

Side-track completed. I return you to your original prompt... :)

David hated campaigning. He liked being in front of the cameras on his own terms and getting an opportunity to talk about his dreams for the future instead of dwelling endlessly on the minutiae of his government's performance. But he hated the hypocritical mudslinging, the pointless photo opportunities, the infinite variety of situations that might lead to a “Duffy” moment, and the endless variations on “Doesn't it feel weird to be campaigning against your former friend?”

Yes. Yes, actually, it did feel weird. Not that David felt as if he were campaigning against Nick at all. His campaign directors - some deliberately chosen for their lack of involvement in the Coalition - were advising David to ignore Nick completely and sidestep any questions about him with a succinct answer followed by “...now, Miliband on the other hand...”. David couldn't help feeling that this attitude did more to belittle Nick than an outright attack might have done.

The Coalition gave Clegg ( ... )

I can absolutely hear Nick saying that last answer as clear as if I were watching the interview on TV. Spot on!

It's back! And poor Nick and David, star-crossed lovers extraordinary.

(Must admit can't help feeling disapproving that Nick didn't have better answers prepared to the coalition questions. bb has advisors, y/n?)

Dramatically, the crap answer is because he doesn't want to talk about David. :) Having said that, I've heard him give some pretty rubbish answers to other tricky but obvious questions thrown at him recently, so got the impression he does speak off the cuff - and beside the point - sometimes. :)
