Nick is given to David as a gift when he become PM, he can’t set Nick free as that would offend the gift giver and nor can he use Nick as the giver intended (a bed slave) as that would offend the Lib Dems who are working for better rights for slaves with a view to slavery being abolished.

I do have a vague idea of where it's going, but getting the time to write it now I'm back at work could be the problem.
As to the Confederate States... heh. I'd already decided that the Confederacy had won the Civil War War Between the States, because this is a universe where slavery is still very much part of modern life, in Europe and America ( ... )

I did notice the "King" in there-- I wasn't sure if you were talking about Charles or maybe even William or Harry but quite possibly you mean none of the above!
You shouldn't have given me that plot spoiler b/c now I'm just going to be thinking about the story more. If you're thinking about who a Confederate States President could be-- perhaps you might consider a Gov. Haley Barbour (R) of Mississippi, who's a current day guy and also a potential 2012 Presidential race hopeful to boot...but I don't want to tell you how to write your own story so you can forget I said that please...
