“Disagreeing I expect,” David interrupted. “Physical violence is a step too far.”
“Yes, yes it is,” Nick said. “It's not as if I admitted to wanting, to wanting to thrash you to a pulp. And it's not as if I would ever do either. I am capable of controlling myself, you know.”
“It certainly doesn't seem so,” David snapped.
“For goodness sake, David,” Nick shot back quickly. “Surely, surely, you can understand. These past five years haven't been particularly easy for either of us. There must have, must have been times when you wanted to knock me flat on my arse.”
“Have there been times when I have been personally irritated by you?” David posed rhetorically. “Yes, yes I suppose there have, but I have never felt the desire to strike you. I had grown to respect you, actually, for your professionalism. It seems that I was mistaken.”

“You do realise,” David said carefully, “that they're going to know exactly what we've been up to in this corridor when they let us out.”
“Perhaps,” Nick chuckled softly. “Or perhaps they'll think that we had a good scrap.”
“I'm not sure either prospect is favourable.”
“Probably not,” Nick said. He pulled David close against him, and then whispered in David's ear, “But the obviously sensible talk that will have to, have to follow does mean we can spend some time alone in your office.”
That, David agreed with a laugh, was not such a bad outcome.
