Reggae beyond Bob Marley

Interestingly, I was just talking about reggae this afternoon, so here's a question for you: Was reggae born in the Caribbean? And if so, what was up with the documentary I just watched about Sierra Leonean refugees, who were playing something that sounded an awful lot like reggae? (Plus, at least one of them had the multi-colored non-beret hat.)

Yes, reggae was born in Jamaica, specifically. But apparently a concert that Bob Marley played in Zimbabwe in 1980 took the entire continent by storm, and ever since reggae has been a very popular genre there and there are a number of very successful African reggae artists, like Alpha Blondy.
