I haven't seen much talk of this on LJ: on Monday, the General Synod of the United Church of Christ overwhelmingly passed a resolution calling for equal marriage rights for all couples, regardless of gender. I'm thinking the United Church of Christ must be a very different animal from the Church of Christ.

Ha! Yes yes yes. Very different. It is funny because the names are quite similar, and I've heard several stories of Church of Christ people stumbling into UCC churches accidentally and vice versa. Ah, people have simply hilarious tales to tell after such adventures.

My late grandfather was a deacon at the Church of Christ in Itty Bitty Town, Arkansas. Going to church there, as a Left Coast kid on summer vacation, was a strange experience ... definitely stepping into an alien reality.

My flatmate is a UCC, and we hailed the decision with glee. Then, I was talking to my mother's neighbors, who are UU, and they told me that UCC actually stands for Unitarian Contemplating Christ.

Who knew there were lefty-church in-jokes!!
