This is heartbreaking. I didn't know about any abandoned naval vessel before, and now I'm really sad. I enjoyed the way you told the story of the USS Ling through the lives of two sailors. That really brought it home.

What a touching story. My stepfather was also in the Navy, and I remember when the ship he was stationed to was decommissioned. It was a big deal.

What a sad story!
this:

beautiful Naval warship that was awarded a battle star for World War II service. The amazing warship that was used to train countless Naval personnel who went on to do amazing things and/or give their lives in the line of duty.

You made real something I wouldn't have considered just reading the article and it was a great approach to the topic

So many feelings in such a short piece, well done!

The POV you used to bring us into this is perfect. My grandpa was in the navy - he'd be sad to see what's become of the Ling too.

You did a great job bringing life to the USS Ling! So many mothball fleets have been completely scrapped now and it does tug on the heart strings to think of all those memories going to the smelter.
