Wish I had been there. Gonna miss the man but I'm glad that the spirit lives on.

I'm sorry for your kidney problems! I hope you get better ASAP.

I had never heard of Jack Laynton before his death, but from what I'm reading, he seems to have been a wonderful guy. Even I, who am an extremist ;-), would probably be there, if I lived in Canada.

He was both a great person (even when I disagreed with some of his ideas, it was impossible not to respect him) and great politician (extremely effective at building coalitions and getting things done.) A very rare combination.

Sweetie, I'm so sorry about the health problems. Call me if you want to talk about it, eh? I've been there (and of course so has Pirate).

Thanks, and I will. Kidney issues are no good.

I enjoyed reading this. I need some hopefulness these days. Even when it's sad, too.

Thanks, sweetie. It was sad but mostly joyful and full of hope, as weird as that sounds.

That's beautiful.

Glad you're only *slightly* ill.

Hee! Well, you know, I'm only slightly ill in the sense that I will probably get medical leave out of this so I won't have to feel too bad about wasting time with it, and it won't kill me, and I get the good drugs, and it's only temporary even if it's going to take longer getting treated than I would like. If any of those things weren't true I wouldn't call this minor. I'm lucky, in that sense.

If you're going to be seriously ill, in other words, this is the sort of serious illness you want to have. I wish you the best outcome possible.

Olivia Chow, Jack Layton's widow, was the campaigning politician we met at the noodle place, wasn't she?

Yes! that was her! We live just to the north of her riding. Man I feel so Canadian whenever I say riding.
