New Vid: I think I love you, I think I'm mad

Oct 02, 2011 09:51

So, new vid, and new ground for me! Not a TV series, but a musing on fandom through concert & music video footage. Not that my devotion to Sufjan Stevens or Annie Clark/St. Vincent is exactly news, but still. I'm not sure how many Sufjan fans there are out there that will find their way to this vid, but I hope that it also speaks to fans of all ( Read more... )

Oh, it's awesome! I love the clips of the St. Vincent video at the beginning and end, really ties it together.

Thank you!! So many stages to get it to this point. I hope I addressed the pacing issues you mentioned, too--I tried to keep a sense of the long shots but layer in much more motion to keep tempo with the music as well.

Miss P loves your icon, btw! She is currently on my lap so she can get a better look at it :D

Haha, that's the cutest thing ever, like she's reenacting the icon. XD Hi, Miss P!

I think the whole video flows nicely. The text helped keep it moving, that was a good addition.

Yes, it's just like she's trying to reenact the icon! She was also making up adjectives to describe the icon, like "it's tmashy!" Who knows what she meant :D

Oh right, I forgot that the version of the vid you saw didn't have the text. Now I feel like the text has always been there. At a certain point I realized that though I knew innately what every word was, my audience didn't, and for this vid that really mattered--because the ambivalence isn't clear without the lyrics. And then they sort of took on a life of their own; I think of this as my vid version of Colbert's "the word." :D

<3 Thank you!! This one was fueled by joy and love for sure.

And thank you so much for all the comments--it was such a lovely treat to see! It means so much when you get what I was trying for with vids that didn't seem to meet their audience, especially because I adore your vids so much.

It's a little niche vid, which is difficult to find an audience for.

I am so fascinated by this vid. I've had it open in a tab since you posted it and I just came back to it (la la la, the state of my browser tabs /o\). And wow. Again. It's amazing work, and I have no idea how much of it is your collage and how much is taken wholesale from music videos or other footage, but it gives the impression it's much more of the former, and either way, wow. Wow.

I love what it says about love and fandom and our relationship with our obsessions. Just amazing! *downloads*

Thank you! Totally awesome comment makes me very happy :) This video is a layered free for all of all sorts of live concert footage, Sufjan's official music videos (just a couple), St. Vincent's videos (just for a brief moment), light shows from Sufjan's Age of Adz tour... It was the first time I'd vidded with live concert footage (other than integrating some of the Age of Adz light show into a Supernatural vid at one point...) and it was so freeing and exciting to work with.

love what it says about love and fandom and our relationship with our obsessions.

This, yes, that's what it's all about! I'm so so glad that came through.

Wow, that's awesome to know! But also, doesn't your browser ever crash? Impressed!

Thanks again for the lovely comment. This little vid escaped notice, in general, so it's very affirming to hear it appreciated.
