Vid notes: With a bit of time past, I'm struck now by the very fact that I decided to merge my love of The Arcade Fire's The Suburbs with Sherlock--it seems from one perspective a strange merger. The Suburbs, as I see it at least, is a lament of, well, my generation, growing older, coming to terms with (and/or reveling in the memory of) the potent mundanity of their (Suburban American) past and moving forward. Sherlock is a digital fantasy, recasting our Victorian hero in a decidedly contemporary British present. And yet, the first time round at least,  I fell in love with Sherlock Holmes in the suburbs, as an adolescent finding myself (the very subject of the album). Somehow the album and the series both speak to me of alienation and mundane but comforting human emotion in a modern setting that's tinged with history. So yes, I see the connections there, running through.

But oh did I have trouble settling on a song for this vid! There were two false starts with different songs, before I realized I had to go with my gut, even if it led me to an unlikely choice. Hmm, but I don't think I'll say more about that. In this case, I'll let the vid speak for itself.
