Has Anyone Out There Had Lasik Eye Surgery?

I'm considering it, because I am SO near sighted and every year (as I get blinder) my eye doctor keeps harping about how I'm a good candidate.  I am at the point now where my contact lenses are 'undercorrected' for distance vision because he is afraid that if he gives me the stronger prescription, I will start experiencing too much eye strain ( Read more... )

I haven't and don't know anyone who has. I have a couple of friends who had LASEK, though, and apparently it was easy enough to recover from and worked, but I guess that all depends on what's appropriate for you.

It feels like everyone here is doing it. My aunt had the surgery done when it first came around, ten or fifteen years ago; my mom about two years ago, and several of my friends in the last few years. Everyone has been very happy with their choice, the only complaints have been some dryness of eyes, and in my mom's case her left eye started going near-sighted again (despite the fact that before the surgery, her sight hadn't changed one way or another for twenty years or so), but stopped pretty soon. She had two operations to try and fix it, and they apparently helped a little. She says she can do everything just fine without even thinking about glasses, but feels like she doesn't see quite well enough to drive when it's getting dark, so she got a cheap pair of glasses she sometimes wears to see better while driving. She's the only person I've heard to have this problem, though, and I fully intend to have the surgery done as soon as my eyesight's done getting worse. Already saving up for it. :D

Thanks for the response :D Via FB, it turns out that many of the people I went to school with it are having it and they all rave about it. The idea of someone messing with eyes with a friggin' laser still makes me nervous, but I am also desperate to get a handle on my headaches. I'm hoping improving my sight could at least help some and that would be worth the cost.
