Planning my lesson on fanfic for my four weekly lessons with thirteen-year-olds. I'm making them a quick article, then we're going to talk about it (and that it's being studied at unis, although more in a cultural studies way than lit-crit). I know a bunch of them read it ( Read more... )

Wowww! Nice!

Helping my twelve years old cousins with their homework I feel like school lets them down in terms of imagination and subverting tropes (Or questioning them) I feel that they study very hard rules and theory but they don't get to use their imagination that much (And maybe that's only their teacher's method) But you could focus on that, if you feel like your kids are similar?

Italian kids certainly seem to have a crazy (to me) amount of grammar and testing at school. It seems a lot more rigid than Vietnamese schools, despite the stereotype!

We study a lot of theory and that's also our system in university. We could use more practice and more creative learning, I think.

I love that you're teaching fanfic. That's awesome!

What will you say if they ask if you've ever written any?
