This has been an unfun week in some ways: either LJ was down or the internet was, plus a south-Vietnam-wide power cut that lasted for hoooours yesterday while I died from lack of air conditioning ( Read more... )

LULZ. IT'S ALMOST LIKE SOMETHING IS PREYING ON YOUR MIND.

Believe me, we may not share a fandom on this, but I can totally do a rant of my very own about why Thor is awesome and Loki's sins against him DO ACTUALLY MATTER THANKS.

But I thought the Marvel movies were all about how the Avengers are mean people for thwarting poor, innocent Loki's plans? :-P

... looking forward to your rant, a lot. *g*

I know what you mean about the armchair diagnosing, but try viewing it instead as 'Maybe this box of tricks will help for this student?'

I had a student once I thought was quite Asperger's. No diagnosis and parents resisted any testing: didn't wand a 'label'. But I did some Googling, adjusted some of my teaching methods, was clearer about signalling when I was cross ('Bob! I am cross!'... he wasn't called Bob) and warned him in advance about changes to routines so he knew what to expect. Lots of little things, just to see if any of them made life easier for him.

He said recently I was the only teacher who ever 'got' him. Good luck with yours. I can see that you care so he's lucky to have you.

This is excellent advice. I may well never get it brought up to the parents but I've definitely been Googling around for advice for teachers on this front.

Thanks :)
