STILL LACK A LAPTOP OMG. But I’ve now seen Avengers Assemble twice. (Would’ve been three times but shit kicked off - and incidentally, kids, I currently lack a phone so plz email me if you need me.) Major feeling about the film
( Read more... )
I am not going to last. I've already read and reread and rereread every spoilery post I could possibly find and THEY ARE NOT ENOUGH! I want to SEE the epicness, the pretties, and all the bloody faces. There will be bloody faces, yes? Please?!?
Yes, there are bloody faces! Not loads of 'em, unfortunately, but Thor and Steve in particular get some artistic blood dripping over their gorgeous faces. And Loki is charmingly banged-up after his encounter with the Hulk.
I've seen it twice now, too, and can't wait to go again. I loved picking up on all the little lines that I missed the first time because I was laughing too much - another great thing about the film was the humour, I think. Perfectly balanced with the action. So very Whedon, really.
And, oh, Coulson. I had an internal 'fuck you, Joss Whedon', but it was also just so perfect. And he couldn't finish his last line! Brilliant.
Discussing the film with (female) comic book-reading friends last night, they were being a bit negative about Black Widow; it makes me a bit sad that when I said I was just glad there was a female Avenger AT ALL, all I got was some blank looks. (And then discussion of how they wished it was Wasp instead, but bah. Be grateful for what we got.)
Haha, yeah, hearing the lines again when LOLing less was a big plus! And it was so perfectly Whedon in the banter.
I was SO PLEASED that he didn't finish his last line. Added to the sadness and the sense of being unfinished, of unfairness, and lessened the possible sentamentality.
Huh - I loved Black Widow! And I think she was a: very cool and b: not sidelined by the narrative, which could have happened so easily. I like that she got to show off her skills and that she's the one who closed the portal like a WORLD-SAVING BOSS.
Also what is this 'instead' from your friends - I say BOTH. Because as far as I'm concerned, this did well, but only Maria Hill saved Natasha from having to be The Woman. And that's always a big problem right upfront if you don't have enough women, that the characters you DO get end up in an impossible position of having to embody everything ever about Woman.
It was awe-mazing, wasn't it? That's a movie I could watch countless times. :D
And I really liked that Natasha/Clint fightscene. I thought it was pretty... hot. That's what I'll be seeing in my dreams... I love them both, and you could see how well they knew each other in the way they stroke and blocked, and just more Clint is always appreciated. :D Then it got too obvious with the biting, but I wasn't bothered much by that. Then again, I was bothered by the kneeling Germans being saved by Captain America
( ... )
So agreed - the fight was fantastic and LOVED the talk afterwards.
And yeah, don't get me wrong, was Not Pleased by that scene. It helped a lot that the old man - by implication old enough to remember the last time this crap happened and Not Having It - stood up. But yeah, that was SO much less subtle and so much more America: World Police than Captain America, which was set during the fucking Second World War!
And yeah, Bruce was a surprise star for me too! I LOVED his scenes with Tony - their bonding so quickly and that Tony teased him but wasn't cruel the way he can be. And driving off together at the end!
I was so shocked over Coulson. :(((
LOL. I do not have exploding feeling-bubbles for Clint and Bruce but I am still happy to discuss them. FOREVER.
Errrr - depends what you mean by 'near the comics'. And I don't know a huge amount. Thor seemed very Thor-ish characterisation-wise, Loki somewhat less so but then he's very new to villainy in this 'verse, beyond that I've not read enough of them to tell, I think. Particularly since these characters are so new to each other, compared to say Tony and Steve post-Civil War.

But the characterisation totally worked for me :)
