Anvil By Lokei Rating: PG, gen Universe: SG-1, Teal’c and Daniel friendship Author’s Note: for sg_fignewton , for the Fall Fandom Free For All, and for her birthday. Happy Birthday, Fig! An episode tag to “Thor’s Hammer.”
I LOVE THIS. Everything, including the title. And you show so many subtle nuances of Teal'c's character here!
a quickly passing impish expression that reminds Teal’c painfully of his son, lost to silence but not forgotten.
Oh, Teal'c. The poignancy of Ry'ac in the days before Bloodlines, when no one on Earth even knows he exists, is heartbreaking.
selfishly he prefers his room at the SGC to the labyrinth, if he must spend his days under the weight of stone.
Oh, ow. It's another seven years before Teal'c will get an apartment off-base, and that only lasts for a month or so... What a fantastic observation, that Teal'c is, in many ways, a prisoner at the SGC
( ... )
I am so GLAD and relieved you liked it! I find Teal'c very hard to write, so I'm thrilled his voice seemed right to you. I'd forgotten just how early Thor's Hammer was, and was excited to figure out that this might be a point where Teal'c and Daniel get to have one of their first moments of connection.
Wonderful! I love the way you pull in little details (Teal'c's son, the stages of the teams relationships, the idea that already Teal'c knows Daniel doesn't always follow orders) What a beautiful insight into Teal'c, Daniel and their friendship.
In many ways, he too disagreed with the decision to destroy the Hammer, though selfishly he prefers his room at the SGC to the labyrinth, if he must spend his days under the weight of stone.
Aw. That's so bleak and yet so true.
I like how Daniel wants to deflect the answer at first. It's not that he doesn't know, but the things close to him, he tends to do more introspection. And early Teal'c--just trying to figure things out.
Thanks! I think the man Daniel is at the beginning would be a complete mystery to a man like Teal'c, even if they can find enough common ground to work together on a daily basis. I liked the idea that this was a point where they might finally start to get beyond the daily stuff.
I'm looking forward to getting to read your fic, too. I've got it bookmarked for later. :)
