I've watched the first 5 episodes, I think. I have today and tomorrow to watch online, and then it will be dvds shipped to me. So I wanted to decide if I even liked it enough to put it in my dvd queue.

The last time I was in a fandom that liked a lot of "whump" was forever ago for The Sentinel, and I just couldn't take it... like, the amount of whump and how they saw the characters I just couldn't get behind, you know? I don't get the impression that that's the case with this fandom, though. Which makes me happy.

You're having the dvds shipped? Awesome! I always find that watching a completely new show (well, "new" as in, I haven't seen it before) makes the wait for a new season of a favourite show (say season 5 of Flashpoint) much easier to bear ;o)

Well, there is quite a bit of heavy whump out there in the Stargate fandom, but most of the "whumpers" I know are more into the comfort aspect than the hurt. The thing is that to make the comfort credible, you've got to make sure it's relative to the hurt. You can't really have a guy holding another guy gently when they only have a splinter or something, you know? ;o) So if you want two guys to really show how much they care about each other, bad things have to happen to one (or both) of them.

I will say though that I can't handle fic where characters are relentlessly tortured, physically or emotionally. I need there to be a significant amount of comfort or I'll stop reading pretty quickly.

Key words there being "relentlessly tortured". Like, with The Sentinel, Blair was basically almost tortured to death all the time, in horrible ways and I just... ugh. And the dynamic other fans saw between him and Jim just... I don't know. Like, they wouldn't slash them even though they wrote them as a couple, but the boys weren't allowed to look at the icky girls either.

I haven't delved into the fandom that much yet, but the vibe I'm getting is more of a hurt/comfort/friendship than a dark/twisted/unhealthy relationship vibe. I have bad flashbacks to that fandom, sometimes...

I watched up to the hurricane is approaching Atlantis and the Genii captured it, and then I fell asleep during an ep... and it seems Netflix has not reached an 11th hour licensing agreement, so it will be dvds shipped, but I'm not sure when that will be, they're pretty far down in my queue. I'll probably switch to sg-1 for a bit since that is still available to stream.

And I still don't care much for McKay. Sorry. =)
