I've  known for a long time I have this odd compulsion when writing fanfic.  If I really love a character, often I have this need to write an AU where they die.  Usually I just jot down a few notes and it's out of my system, but sometimes I keep writing.  What does this say about me ( Read more... )

I dunno, maybe it's like being curious about who would attend your funeral? Like, how would the other characters react to this character's death?

This is why I love scifi: no one really dies in scifi and so there's plenty of opportunity to explore what would happen if one of the main characters died...and then you can bring them back to life ;o) Not that I'm a big fan of death fic or anything, but they sure provide a lot of angst ;o)

I think it is the angst factor. Sometimes I use the fic writing to get out my "issues". Not that my issues are specifically death/kidnapping/crime related mayhem, but writing the angst gets it out of my system.

Plus, with fic, I've always been drawn to AU's. So you're not trying to fit in with cannon, but just playing around with the characters.
