Thoughts on Bercow, Trump and state visits

The Speaker of the Commons, John Bercow, has ignited a huge row by saying he will oppose Donald Trump being allowed to address the Houses of Parliament during his State visit later this year. I'm sure Lizzie will do what she does and insult the crap out of him in a way that he won't even realise it. She spent part of her life fighting Nazis, I dare say she won't be best pleased to host what is basically a neo-Nazi in her house.

I doubt she will be pleased. On the other hand, she doesn't get much say: she had to host Ceaucescu back in 1978. She couldn't stand him, but she still had to.

Has Xi Jinping gained political power by overtly promoting racism and sexism?  That's Bercow's excuse for why Trump is different.

Ideally, he'd suddenly discover a yearning to spend more time with his family, or a long-term but minor illness. I don't think he's likely to go, though.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I feel about my local Conservative MP.
