The BBC has an article pointing out that today is the 25th anniversary of the Challenger space shuttle disaster. This was one of the first news events that really shook me, and the first time (that I can remember, anyway) that I saw people killed on live TV. At least you're old enough to remember it. I wasn't even born yet.

Give it a few years, then you'll be the one posting stuff like this and other people complaining about being young. =:P

So it is. I'm just old enough to remember watching the disaster, myself. My whole school had let out in honor of Christa McAuliffe's being the first teacher to be sent to space and, as I remember, it was the first time that I'd ever really been made aware of the space program. It was a pretty big deal. Needless to say it was the first time I ever saw anything like that, too. In some ways, the Challenger disaster is the single event in history, to date, that has had the most profound effect on me personally. I still find it hard to watch the footage or even look at stills from the disaster.

Today is my father's birthday, too. That only helps to secure the disaster in memory.
