see what happens when you don't place nice with others? You never know when you may need to call in a favor, so it's always prudent to be nice to others, even when it's insincere, lol.

as for readers, I also don't have the same amount of readers as I once did either...but then again the content has evolved and so has the readership. and in the end, this blogging thing was never supposed to win me a pulitzer anyway :). I think that if you write from the heart, any kind of audience, however large or small, is appreciated, but not necessary.

such is the life of the starving artist :)

would be nice if I spell-checked my stuff once in a while.

but I meant to say "play nice" not "place nice" :).

I'll have to humbly disagree with you on this one in that an audience is totally necessary.

A writer writes to be read. If we wrote just for ourselves, we'd keep private journals for our own thoughts. Here, I want to know what I write resonates with someone and is actually good writing.

I said once that there are writers - who are read - and ranters, who just want to scream, irrespective of how their words affect others, for better or worse.

I think you're a writer. I am too. Ergo, readers.

I agree with you on the point that a writer writes to be read. But allow me to reframe my explanation ( ... )

haha, the story about the ESB just gave me a moment of schadenfreude.

I think it gave a lot of people that.

Hope everything is ok (and that maybe we get to hear your long story about the hospital--I'm damned nosy like that).

I had no idea that the Empire State Building did different colored lights at all ever. Heh. The bigger point is a good one, though. I know far too many people who burn bridges. I don't know if they'll ever need to cross at that point again, but not having the option is generally bad.

Everything is getting ok - I'll post about that although it's less my story and more someone close to me.

Yes, the ESB changes colour regularly and there's this guy who's job it is to change it. Pretty interesting job if you ask me.

I personally think that the reason you have less daily readers isn't so much because of something you're doing or not doing but more about the fact that more people are using and spending time on Facebook compared to when you had more readers ... I'd bet that less and less people are blogging on LJ in general (I certainly stopped) ... and for that matter you aren't counting the people who are reading via Facebook or even the LJ RSS feed (which I do when it comes into my RSS reader).

Yes, that's potentially true but I still think that I should perhaps write more and also go back to get some SEO action going.

I find one of the most fascinating things about living in the small town that I now find myself in is that there are connections everywhere. Be careful of whom you slight because their grandmother, or gardner, or whatever will probably enter your sphere of influence sometime soon and the reckoning will occur.

I'm always surprised at what a small town NYC is - if you look at today's entry, you'll see that I'm dealing with a woman that I pretty much have to constantly deal with who doesn't seem to realize that her actions are remembered by us all.
