Oh, captain! My captain!

Since I failed to find an entry on this in our beloved community, I simply feel the need to do so as this problem unfortunately is STILL newsworthy. However, feel free to remove it, if a post like this already exists somewhere.

Let's not beat around the bush:
Currently, Philipp Lahm is said to have a fight with Michael Ballack over the captain's ( Read more... )

"Unfavorable, however, I think is the fact that he resided in the same hotel as the team. That was unfit. Only 23 players belong there - those who are to be used in the championship."

Ehh, isn't that kind of rude...?

Ballack is one of the first soccer players I ever fell in love with on the Germany team, so of course, I've got a soft spot for him. I would like to see him get the captain spot back, but I'm not gonna die if he doesn't. I'll be supporting these boys no matter what.

Yeah, you're right. However the "Kaiser" is like the God of German football. His word is law. He may say anything to anyone.

I think what he actually meant was that seeing their former captain while having another one might have added to their uneasiness. And they might have felt guilty, because they saw the misery of their captain, who couldn't take part in what is probably his last World Cup...

This is hard, because I think both deserve this captainship. I think Lahm did a great job keeping them together when they lost a good player and captain, and they seem to do really well under him as captain. I also feel like he keeps them cool, calm and collected which I think is what got them to the semi-finals.

I agree that there was something really special in this team during the WC. You could see it. It's like when you watch a live band - you just know if they are actually happy to be there or just wanna finish and go home.

I can't compare that to Ballack's captaining since I really hadn't seen enough of it, but this has to be acknowledged in Lahm's favor.

I completely agree. Everything's different with the team and Ballack will have to adjust to it. But I doubt that'll make him any less of a captain.

Schweinsteiger would be an amazing captain, but bb Lahm wants this armband so bad, hahahaha. Aw.

Yeah. As much as I love Michael Ballack and everything, I'm not exactly sure if placing him back to captain is the best thing since the guys went to SA and had a completely different experience without him and got familiar with that. Buuuut, who knows? Maybe they want him back?

Hahah, well Bastian is in the right place to give orders since he's in the middle of everything. Poor Philipp is always in the back. But also, Bastian knows how to give orders and he's great at doing it. (:

I love Ballack - he is an amazing player and a legend - but the NT has played their best soccer in years under Lahm's leadership. Hell, they weren't exactly shabby against Uruguay under Basti's captaincy.
However, I wish this had come out differently. It's looking like a power struggle when it shouldn't.
