I think that article does cover quite a lot of the points and also the problems that the Germans have with Löw. For me, there's a few more, the most important one being that he took to publicly criticising Marcel Schmelzer (can't remember when that was though) and Mats Hummels (after the semi-final at the Euro 2012) which I personally never really "forgave" him for. Apart from the fact that they're two players from "my" club Borussia Dortmund I think that that is something you just don't do as the manager of a national team or, in fact, as the manager of any team. Of course, criticism is necessary, but not in public! (And also, of course, Hummels' mistake in that game against Italy wasn't the only reason they lost that match
( ... )
Oh he has favorites but that is good and bad. He shouldn't have kept Gomez in Euro 12 but it's widely known how much he <3's Poldi (the only person to call him Jogi instead of Herr Low) and yet.. Poldi's been warming the bench almost all tournament.
It's hard for me to gauge how much of his recent year / two-year callups are due to not liking new bbs versus how many have been unavailable b/c injuries. In an alternate world, I really want to know how the team would have been affected this WC with Marco Reus available.
Poldi is one of the reasons why I actually liked Löw for a very long time, because he kept holding on to him even when he didn't always play at the very best level. And now, that I think he's in a really, really good shape (again), he's sitting on the bench... Well... (Btw, I've never heard anyone call him Herr Löw - I think they say just "Trainer" (manager) )
Quite a lot of people get the impression that he doesn't like the Dortmund players or likes the Bayern players better. I don't know how many of them are biased because they're Dortmund fans tho ;)
What I would really like to know is what the hell Kießling has done wrong to deserve never getting a chance in the national team. Apart from the fact that he now doesn't even want to play for it anymore, he's a really good striker and it's a fact I think that there aren't too many good classic German strikers, such as Klose or Kießling are. Also never understood why he replaces Reus with Mustafi... There's just so many things I don't understand....
Nice articles. I agree on some points. But Jogi did a remarkable job as a manager. 4 semifinals in a row, Euro final and now the WC final. There are not a lot of managers who do better. However I don't always agree with his decisions. But we don't see what happens behind the scenes and he's hardly a superhuman so bound to make mistakes. I would like to see someone new after this tournament and if he goes out with a title, that would be brilliant. The problem is that I can't think of anyone to replace him.
there are times when i am enraged, there are times when i'm like... eh, there are times when i actually think he's being far more shrewd than I give him credit for
