Also, I blindly did not notice How I Met Your Mother, which I sort of enjoy. I got into it for Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof's cameo, and the first season wasn't too good in my opinion, but later it grew on me. I fell in love with Harris's character... ::shows icon::
I've seen some episodes of it and I liked them. I'm just not sure how much straight up comedy I want to mainline... also once again it's a living show and I prefer finished ones.
That's really good to hear about Dexter. My main concern is I sort of don't want to start watching living shows. HAHA that's a totally good reason though.
I totally love Black Books (I've seen the first series already).
I'm totally mainlining B5 right now and it is so good. I totally suggest it.
I was going to vote for Dexter except hey! You have Life up there! Since that show my obsession du jour, I'm voting for that one. I have no idea if it's going to be up your alley, but... hmmm. You like Bones, right? Like Bones, Life is a character-based procedural, except Charlie Crews is probably a bit quirkier than Brennan (I think that's her name?) Damian Lewis is fantastic in the role, and I LOVE his partner, the tiny, non-nonsense Dani Reese, who will pwn you with her awesomeness. [/obligatory plug]
I've only read about 1 1/2 of the George RR Martin books! I keep meaning to get to the rest, but other things keep cropping up. So I'm still at "errr, you guys are fangirling the sister-fucking attempted child-killer... why? Is it because he's blond and pretty?" stage. I hear things happen later that'll change my mind. Hmmmm.
Yeah I added in the things people suggested to gauge everyone else's reaction to them.
I love Bones. Right now it is pwning all other shows in the face in my opinion.
The previews for Life looked interesting, I just wasn't looking to pick up new shows. I still may hold off until what is going to happen it becomes a little more clear. If it never comes back will I be sorry I watched it? Or will it be worth it like with Firefly?
OMG run do not walk to go read the rest of those books! They are quite seriously the best thing ever. And yes there are reasons for the change in feelings. If there's one thing GRRM is great at it might be making you think someone is horrible and then turning things around and making you love them. That or the world building... or a quite a few other things.
Life just concluded its 11-episode mini-arc. Because of the uncertainty about cancellation and the WGA strike, the writers actually made this run of episode into a story arc that's emotionally satisfying with some closure (with plenty of plot threads to be picked up when it comes back), so I don't think you'll be left hanging the bag at the end, going, "... wah?" The last episode before the hiatus was one of my favourite hours of TV aired all year.
ps. by "things" do you mean shows?
Shows, mostly. Also, real life, which is kicking my ass. And to be perfectly frank, the misery, misery DEATH! angst! -a-thon in the books got to be a little bit too much so that I felt I needed a little break. Heh. If I do go back, I'd be going back for Tyrion, who's hands down my favourite character thus far. I'm mostly tolerant of Jaime so far because he loves his brother. *g*
I hear HBO will be making a miniseries out of the books, which strikes me as an ideal medium for this sort of adaptation.
Yeah Tyrion is great. God I am trying to remember what happens when (Books 2 and 3 blur together for me because it's been a while since I read them). But I think you will find keeping going rewarding.
And yes! I am totally excited about the HBO thing. He's going to be heavily involved and I trust HBO to convey things wonderfully. Supposedly each book will be a season which seems perfect. Now we just have to wait for the writer's strike to finish.
I was trying to decide between Dorne and Oldtown for the Westeros question, because both seem like placed I'd enjoy, but had to go with Dorne in the end because, of course, being female in Oldtown wouldn't be nearly as much fun as a) being male in Oldtown and b) being female in Dorne. Also, the food is bound to be better.
liked The Seven (Is that a Catholicism thing, or a love for Classical Mythology?
Mostly because I think a proper religion should have priests and stained glass windows and ceremonies and hymns. :P I was raised Anglican though, not Catholic.
Okay. That's sort of what I thought. I didn't mean Catholicism so much literally as the love of the ritual and ornate places of worship and all the things I sometimes find appealing about it. It's the structure.

Also, take that, HENRY JAMES. Even though I've read more Henry James than Edith Wharton. I just get a sense that she's totally better.

Then again I am not a big fan of HJ at all.

Also, I admit I totally started watching it for Julie Benz. That's what two months long marathon will do to you ;)
I've seen a couple of Black Books episodes and hated it, but some people I know adore it.
I totally want to watch B5 one day. Neil Gaiman was involved, after all.
Also, you could watch Torchwood, because some episodes were totally made of win. But others were lame, so don't get discouraged...
(I sort of can't wait for the second season. James Marsters! Yay!)

It really cheers me up, that it does.

That's good to be warned about with Torchwood.

And yes the Dornish food seriously sounds delicious.

But you totally need to infect your f-list with B5 watching. It's for their own good!

I am thinking about how to do that. It's generally speaking a good time with the writer's strike but I don't know how to get people interested.
Maybe icon making?
