that's the thing thou...it had been a year already, so obviously the whole 'I have no soul thing' wasn't bothering him that bad...so WHY would he even be a) keeping track of Dean and b) save him from the djinn if he doesn't really care about him like he said...what's the point?
if there's no real feeling there wouldn't ROBOSam have just left the 'rusty' hunter alone, why drag him into it?
Familiarity. Maybe he kept Dean at bay because some portion of him likes how he is and Dean would screw it up. As for Dean back in the game, once he remerged with his old life - Dean is quite useful. I think alot of Sam's actions are based on memory and cold calculation right now. Dean is useful, always has been.
I totally agree, Dean is WAY more useful than half the band of merry men...but it just seems like the general assumption is that he's been out of it too long...which is bullshit, but whatever...just seems a bit hinky to me :/
