If your mother dies, you would be upset, no? If some random kid from some random familys mother dies, are you going to feel the same as if it were your own mother?
Though I can see your point, no life is truly worth more than another. And America is filled to the brim with propaganda.
My parents fucked in this country. I live in america because of the people I know there. By dropping the american mentality I have really grown. Why do people "love" their country? Its bullshit reasoning, there is always room to grow and get better.
What the fuck is it with the family thing? I have gotten this response a few times. Don't use that type of argument. It doesn't work well. Of course I am going to care more about my family because I interact with them on a fairly regular bases. But to me, a foreigner I have never met and an american I have never met are on the same level.
Because its the easiest way to put things in perspective on a small scale. You have to deal with our government, our military, our way of life. You interact with america you have more connection to it than any other country. Thats why its the same, America is your family wether you like it or not until you become a legal member of another country. Its the crazy mother who pops pills and feeds you lies but its still your mother and you are going to feel personally attacked if something happens to it

The family thing implies that I am close to other people in America more then I am to other people outside of America. I'm not. Just because I have to deal with them doesn't mean I am somehow close to them.
Well, that would be great if 1. If every country was a warmonger but some countrys who do well don't have that strong of a military. 2. If the country wasn't controlled by coporate powers. 3. If our leaders were the top notch of society.
I'm of the group that loves our country but hates our government. Of course, America isn't the only country I love. Ireland and Scotland are two others. I love these countries because of the deep connection I feel to them and their history, not because of any fondness for the government

Why? Why do you love a country? Is it the history? Is it the people? I don't get when people say they "love" a country.
Not every developed country is warmongering. And when you speak of benefits, I believe you are speaking of the scraps they throw down to us? And never get the idea that it is the gov't that gives us these "rights." It is people who take them. The 8 hour work day, womens rights, etc. And it is the gov't that tries to take them back. Then apart of the country believes that we should get ups our rights for "protection."
It is the grim relaity that in our day and age, we are all connected. To the shoes that are made in some sweet shop, to the oil we use, to the food we eat. Our everyday lives affect more people then you think.
