Ignoring Envy wasn't as hard as Peter had worried it might be: she certainly didn't seem to be making any attempts to insert herself into his life again, the way she had on Friday. And so his normal life continued. He'd spent the morning in extended talks with Petra and several Russian politicians, and then devoted some time to outlining the new ( Read more... )

Envy had spent all of yesterday trying to get her affairs in order. Or at least getting to grips with what her affairs even were at this point, aside from deleting interview requests from her phone and tracking the steady build-up of comments on her latest blog entry.

It was from last week. She'd tried to write one now but didn't know what to say. She didn't really know what to say to anyone, at this point.

So now she was out and about, too. She'd walked to the new diplomatic complex, for no other reason than to give herself a moment to think while in motion, and now she was walking back. (Heels and legs for days. This wasn't home. So she wasn't dressing for hanging out at home.)

Peter noticed her immediately, of course. (He always noticed her. It was a pain in the ass.) He watched her go, but didn't change his trajectory. Or his speed.

Eventually that trajectory would lead to them meeting in the middle. So be it.

Against her better judgment, Envy had her phone out again. So she wasn't really looking around. Even less when she noticed she had a text from her father.

We saw the news. Are you okay?

Goddammit. That was definitely one conversation she'd wanted to delay as long as possible. Didn't look like that was going to be an option for very much longer.

And that was about when their trajectories met. She looked up, noticed Peter, rolled her eyes. Muttered, "Ugh."

"And good afternoon to you too," Peter said lightly.

He was in a good mood. He was determined to keep it.
