Topher's big plans for the evening, on the other hand, had involved less attempted world-saving and more video games in the common room. It wasn't until late that he made his way back to his room, and... passed Peter's door. Where the light was still on.

So he knocked.

Peter was... flailing uselessly in the direction of the refresh button on his comment page when the knock happened.

A second later, he was flailing slightly less uselessly at the desk to get it to turn off, and then he got up to his feet and padded up to the door, which he opened. "Kenz, what d-- oh, Topher. What do you want?"

Topher shrugged. "I dunno." Because normal people didn't come by their friends' rooms in the middle of the night, Topher, you weirdo. "Want to hang out?"

"It's like one AM in the morning," Peter said, squinting at him. "Fine, come in."

"Your light was on," Topher reminded him as he came in and flopped down on the extra bed. So... deal with that, Peter. "You studying or something?"

Look, with Peter, after a while he'd just learned to assume.

"Just some late night revisions. I have an online exam in the morning," Peter lied easily. He shut the door behind Topher, and ran his fingers through his own hair. "Why are you up?"

"Video games," Topher said, shrugging. "And then I... rewired the TV."

"Not to explode, I hope," Peter said, dropping his ass down on the bed and reaching for a bag of Doritos.

"Nope, just for picture quality," Topher assured him. Then he reached across the space between the beds with both hands outstretched. "Ooh, Doritos."

Peter rolled his eyes but offered the bag to him-- "Just a handful."

Topher dutifully took a handful, popped some in his mouth, and nodded in satisfaction. "Way better than cheeseburger," he announced.

Cool Ranch was the way to go, it was true.

"I can safely say I saw that coming," Peter said, getting a few more of his own. "So, did you up the picture quality?"

Really, really inane conversation, but at least it was giving Peter an opportunity to sit on his frazzled nerves.

"Yup," Topher confirmed. "Gonna try it on my desk thing too, probably tomorrow." He wiped Dorito-crumb-covered hands on the now-bare mattress and reached for Peter's desk. Oh, Topher, please don't do that. "See, I have this theory about how to clear it up a little," he said. "Wanna see?"

Peter... reached forth to grab the other end of his desk. "Not right now," he said. "It's very early in the morning and the brightness of the screen is just going to cost me another hour of sleep."

"'Kay," Topher said easily, flopping back on the bed. "So... 'sup?"

Peter put his desk aside. "Again, it's one in the morning, and I should be studying," he pointed out. "My life does not get much more exciting than this."
