I'm glad I wasn't the only one annoyed by One's characterization. Didn't we just spend the previous episode with 13 saying how Time Lords are "beyond that" and they have One surprised at Bill's sexuality?
Like, the first batch of jokes in Twelve's TARDIS weren't bad. Then One started talking about how Polly did the dusting and I got more annoyed from there. Though, apparently the "smacked bottom" line is a reference to something One said to Susan in "The Dalek Invasion of Earth" so that wasn't completely out of character. Still...
Every one of those sexist lines was aimed squarely at the Doctor Who old-school fanboys who've been complaining about the Doctor regenerating into a woman. Moffat even got a "Nurse Who" joke in there. It was his way of saying "The Doctor has moved on from this, the show has moved on from this, stop with your attitudes that are straight out of the '60s."
I agree that it wasn't totally in-character for One, but as a piece of meta, I thought it was brilliant.
I too was annoyed with the 'One is sexist' bit. I sort of headcanon it away as less about the Doctor actually holding the ideas naturally but that he'd spent so long in 60s England, 'fitting in' (to a degree, anyway) that he echoed some of the attitudes among people of the era to also fit in, which the newer Doctor is ashamed of, realizing it's better to set an example... And it may be that his companions, being women of the same era, often did tidy up and he just got used to that, not as a "woman's role" but just as "I'm an old man, I have standards but I don't want to do the work to clean myself, and that's one of only reasons it's worth traveling with people, to get them to do the cleaning
( ... )
And I was so hoping to see 13 look in the mirror, look annoyed for a second, and say, "Aww, I'm still not ginger!" but be pleased with everything else.
Heh, I was waiting for a "still not ginger" joke, too. Or maybe that was too obvious of a joke. Kind of feels like Chibnall doesn't know how to write Thirteen yet, hence the lack of substantial lines. ;-)
I think Jenna's hair was due to her taking time out from filming "Victoria" to make an appearance on Doctor Who... she has long hair in that to accommodate all of Queen Victoria's hairstyles.
Yeah, I figured that was the case. I read that her scene was done separately because she was extremely busy with Victoria. So cool that she found the time to do a quick scene.

Did you ever find a copy of "The Tenth Planet" to watch? I can remember discussing how you were going to watch it after the Christmas Special.
