Meme time!

Haven't done a meme in a while. Stolen from ladymercury_10:

So what have you been up to? / Major life changes? Same old same old?
Yup, same old, same old. Still employed, which is a tough thing right now since I work in the oil and gas industry and there are layoffs aplenty. My current project is chugging along, but it could go belly up for all I know.

I didn't realize The Expanse was based on a book series! I kept seeing commercials for the show while I was watching Killjoys and it looks really interesting.

Huh, I'm surprised the trailers don't mention that The Expanse is based on a book series. Maybe they don't want to scare people away. But if you like space operas, I would definitely check out the series. The books are the size of bricks, but you won't notice once you get into the plot.

I was watching it on demand and the commercials were only about 30 seconds long, and I think they were trying to cram in all the creator credits because they have some high-profile people working on it.

I love the "Vancouver Never Plays Itself" vid! So true. We need films actually set in Vancouver!

You know, I can't even think of a Canadian TV show that is set in Vancouver. No, wait! Da Vinci's Inquest! Um, that's it, though. But yeah. Vancouver is such a beautiful city. It's too bad that most people only see it through the lens of Hollywood.

But I do have to admit that it's a geek's dream city to visit. So many filming locations. You can visit Metropolis, Starling City, Central City, Caprica and many other fictitious places all within one place.

I'm amused at the Vancouver never playing itself video. I've never been to Vancouver, but I'm quite fond of the pieces of it generic enough to pretend to be somewhere else in a show or movie. I hope it gets to play itself more often!

However, there are new problems when your city gets to be itself onscreen. I grew up in Atlanta, which has been growing popular lately as a filming location. It mostly plays other places, but does occasionally get to be itself, including in The Walking Dead. I don't watch that show any more, but I watched the first season, when one of the characters' major goals was to get to the CDC (Center for Disease Control). Near the end of the season, they finally made it...and I started shouting at the screen, because that wasn't the CDC at all!!!! They used some performing arts center in the northern suburbs, which looked nothing like the real CDC. I get that the CDC is doing important, delicate, highly secure work and probably didn't want their lawn covered with extras dressed as zombies. But why not ( ... )

That's hilarious about The Walking Dead. Perhaps they didn't want fans to crowd the real place while trying to take pictures? Or is the real CDC kind of boring looking? Maybe they wanted something snazzier. It's all about aesthetics on TV; no one gives a thought for realism. ;-)

The real CDC is okay-looking, but I guess a bit less visually snazzy than the faux-CDC in the show. Also, the real place is actually a complex of several buildings, which might be harder to get onscreen.

I suspect they just decided that not enough people know what the real CDC looks like for it to be worth the bother and expense of making it look right.

Your icon is perfect!

If I watched The Walking Dead, I wouldn't have known the difference. The producers are probably grateful for ignorant viewers. ;-)

I'm quite fond of that Giles icon. One of his best lines.
