Missed metrics

Jan 23, 2012 19:39

I seem to have neglected the metrics again, so here they are:

Friday: 2,000
Saturday: 4,500
Sunday: 2,500
Monday: 3,000

Yesterday, I had a brief flail-moment because I wrote fluff, and I wanted to delete it all.  Fortunately, I was talked down from the ledge, but it still bothers me that it's there, and I figured out why -- I don't have any build-up in ( Read more... )

I have no idea how you keep writing so damn much so damn often. Seriously? You're like a super being. I'm a little scared of you.
I've been on a writing binge myself, pulling out 18K in the last three and a half days and I can feel the word counts disintegrate, and that's only THREE AND A HALF DAYS. How you do it week in and week out I'll never bloody know.
You're amazing. And a bit scary. Scarily amazing.
Sorry, just had to say that.

I'm sorry! I don't meant to scare anyone :(

Still, 18K over three and a half days is pretty damn good! That's. A hell of a lot! I don't think I've done that in a long, long time.

I wrote a post today to say how I manage the word count, if it helps me not look so scary? I hope it does...

I bribed it with chocolate-frosted triple brownies... It finally came out.

*stares suspiciously at the word counts*

You do this to torture me, don't you? I think I have a working equation and you just throw another detail that means I have to rework it. Then you throw a few additional counts just for kicks.

*pokes at word count* So where in this are your bad writing days?

Yes, why, yes, I do it to torture you. Are you tortured yet? Because if not, I can try harder?

The bad writing days are the by-the-skin-of-my-teeth 2,000 word (or less) days, when I just barely make my minimum goal for the day.

Those are also, coincidentally, the days where I have to write the scenes I don't find easy to write.

Tortured enough. Do you know that you don't always tell us when you've finished a chapter?

Yes, I do take that into calculation now...

2,000 on a bad day. I wish I had bad days like that...

Oh. Um. I'll do better on the chapter front!

As for bad days...

You'll get them! I promise!

Practice! That's all it is...

I know -- someone told me that a while ago, and when they said (at the time) LM was nearly as long as LoTR, I went WHAT! and sure enough, by the next part, I'd beaten the word count.

Ouch.

Your metrics continue to amaze me. How do you manage it? You make throwing out a couple of thousand words (a day) sound so easy. And it's not. I don't know how you do it, but you have my respect. ;D

It's not easy, I know. There was a time I could barely squeak out 500 words a day, then I couldn't look at it for days or weeks. The more I wrote, the more it became a habit, and look where it got me!
