I hope everyone had wonderful holidays and a rocking New Year's!
I'd meant to post this yesterday, on, you know, the first of January, but the second will have to do. Since people have started receiving their postcards with amazing efficiency (seriously, all the way from Canada to the UK in less than three days, and on the weekend right before Christmas? holy shit), I've decided to actually go ahead with the scavenger hunt part of the LM Scavenger Hunt.
In all actuality, the scavenger hunt will be a combination of Where's Waldo, Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego, and a friending meme. So, here are the rules:
- First and foremost, this is not where you post the text of your postcards (that'll be in February).
- Second, you don't have to be a recipient of the postcards to participate.
- And, third, have fun and play nice.
Now, here's what we're actually going to do. And by "we", I mean you:
If you've received a postcard (or are waiting and its arrival is imminent):
On your blog, Tumblr, or other social media platform that you're using and are comfortable using, post a picture of the postcard and the number. You can also post the content (though some of you have said you're still trying to decipher my handwriting), but that's not necessary. I would ask you to please link back to this post and credit me as the writer of the text, and to
this post and credit
cerch as the artist for the postcards. I understand that not everyone will want to do this, and that is completely, 100% OKAY. OH! And if you're not sure if you are receiving a postcard, if you signed up, I mailed one out to you. I can't guarantee your actually getting it, though, since the mysterious amazingness that is the Post Office is out of my control.
If you want to participate in the scavenger hunt/friending meme:
Leave a comment to this post. You don't have to have a LJ to comment -- I am unscreening this post and allowing anonymous comments. Just copy the handy text form below, fill out the questions, and post it. (ETA: if it doesn't post because LJ marked it as spam, don't worry. I still receive the comment, and I will unscreen those as soon as I can. Sorry! I forgot that this might happen.)
Your name (any nickname will do): Did you sign up for a postcard? Where can you be found (Tumblr/LJ/etc)? No, but seriously, where (URL, please!)? Tell us something about yourself: Fandoms? Pairings? Favourite fics? Guilty pleasures? Are you a writer/artist/vidder/reader? Anything else that you'd like to add? The comment you leave is now your own personal comment thread. Each time you find a postcard on the Web, come back to your comment thread and leave another comment with the number of the postcard you found and a link to the location of the post.
Since this is also a friending meme, make sure you check out other people's comments, too!
What's in this for you?
FRIENDS, of course. What I love the most about the Merlin fandom is that everyone's wonderful, and even if the show is over, it doesn't mean that the fandom disappeared.
As for the Scavenger Hunt... I suppose sending everyone out to find wild post cards can't possibly be much fun, because after a while it'll be hard to find them all, but maybe it won't be that hard, because if you noticed the comment box? I've left a way for you to track down people who are recipients of the postcards.
Why would I do that, anyway? Everyone who finds at least five postcards will get entered in a random draw to get a full set of the three postcards. I will send them to you in a padded envelope so that they don't get ripped or bent or marked up. How many winners will there be? I am using the 10% rule. For example, if 100 people play the game and find five post cards, 10% of you (or 10 people) will get picked by a random number generator to get the copies. If you win and want me to send them to someone else, I am happy to do that, too.
Since everyone is posting their findings and the locations of the postcards they find, I'm just going to go by the honour system and assume that you found the postcards on their own. Once you have found five postcard holders, I will reply to your comment to give you a number for the draw -- but don't let that stop you from going out to find more postcards. I might be sneaky and enter you for every five postcards you find -- you will never know.
There you go. I hope the rules were clear -- at least, as clear as mud. In case they weren't, I am leaving an I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS GAME comment below for you to reply to and ask questions, just so that the question or comments don't get lost.
Happy Hunting, and thank you for playing!!
