Ohhhhhh my goddddddddd, yes, you MUST read Regeneration. I had a big thing about WWI before I read it (lol war), but once I'd gotten through the trilogy I just, afgh, good lord. It's basically a half-true story about a rl doctor (Rivers <3) who was treating shellshock during WWI in a more forward-thinking way than most of his colleagues; Sassoon and Owen are in it, as they were really treated in the hospital Rivers was stationed at - Rivers and Sassoon became very close - and the two poets met there. Prior, meanwhile, is an original character who's just sort of in the background in the first one, but then takes the second two narratives and runs about with them - he's so amazing, and his relationship with Rivers is one of my FAVOURITES EVER, fkgnerdn banter and and and, okay, this is so incoherent and it's late but please read them? I can't rec them highly enough

(I giggled like a mad thing when the BBC made it canon that Mitchell was in WWI. I was like, guys! I totally knew that, that's why I put him in my Life on Mars WWI AU. It's nice to be right. :D)

Mitchell and Rivers are perfect, both of them with their quiet insistence and then Mitchell going mental, because it's so easy to forget--well, I forget--that Mitchell is dangerous and clearly has a pretty awful past and all that, because obviously by the point that we get to the tv show he's really trying to stop that and just eat biscuits and stuff. Well thank goodness, I am very relieved to hear about Rivers. Also GREG PROOPS no I did not know about that and I am very excited, when does Conchords even start, is it later this week or something, sakjdh I love it when all the telly starts up again. ALSO I never replied to your reply on my lj (or something), but I think the main thing I wanted to say over there was that I totally emailed one of George's friends earlier this evening, although sadly it wasn't David Bowie, because instead I picked the man who a) played the uke and b) had some correspondence quoted in George's email where he seemed nice and said I could drop him a line. Having said that, this did all take place nearly a year ago, so I did have to preface the email with a bit of "er, sorry this is so out of the blue, you may or may not remember an email from George ages ago...?" WELL FINGERS CROSSED.
