Parker knows there's something going on here, there *has* to be. Her logic runs something like this:

Nate once told her that part of loving people was living with their flaws. Their flaws - Parker's and Hardison's, at least for Eliot - was sleeping too much. If he really loved them he wouldn't disappear while they were sleeping, because he'd love their sleeping selves as much as their wide awake selves. He'd live with their flaws.

So there was something else that he loved as much as them, something that didn't sleep. Parker thought the big flaw in Nate's theory was that if you loved lots of things and one of those things had less flaws than the others then maybe you wouldn't want to live with the flaws of the other things.

It wasn't until lately that she'd struck on her big discovery. There were two things in any big city that didn't sleep. Crime... and Justice!

From there it was obvious what Eliot was doing during the nights. He was Batman. The only thing she had to do now was prove it to Hardison.

Parker was good at the not-being-seen thing. She wasn't a pro at following, but it as a skill worth knowing, so she threw herself at it with enthusiasm. She had pretended to sleep for an hour and a half before Eliot had got the idea and sat up with a gasp. He'd probably *forgotten* that he had to go out and beat up criminals and things like that. (She hadn't been paying much attention to what Batman actually did during the films, because that hadn't looked like Eliot at all.)

She hadn't expected him to get into his truck, they lived right in the centre of the city, there were scum-bags right there outside their door, but she was sneaky and had managed to get into the back of the truck without him noticing.

They drove for ages, and Parker had started to wonder if it was Eliot's truck that didn't sleep. Loving a truck was a bit strange, though Eliot did keep spending money on it.

Then they pulled off the road and stopped. Parker waited for Eliot's footsteps to head away from the truck before sitting up and looking around herself. They were in a park or forest or something, plants growing in every direction she looked. There were flowers and young trees and vegetables and fruit. The truck was parked on a short gravel drive only just off the road, and Eliot had disappeared up a narrow path behind a monster bamboo frame which was holding up some kind of climbing plant.

There was only just enough light to see her surroundings, but it didn't look like Eliot was going to be fighting crime tonight.

She watched quietly from behind the foliage that covered the frame as Eliot combed gentle hands through a rose-bush, pulling out dying flower heads and cutting them off with a pair of sheers he had pulled out of the neat blue shed she could just see a corner of.

When she'd waited long enough to be absolutely sure that this wasn't just where Eliot was hiding his Batman costume (because she'd checked *absolutely* everywhere else, including under the shirt he was wearing on more than one occasion), or lying in wait for some signal in the sky that would have him jumping into action, she moved to the other side of the frame and sat down.

"Are you *pruning*?" she asked when she realised Eliot still hadn't noticed her.

Eliot jerked hard enough that he got his hair caught in the branches of the nearest rose bush and nearly stabbed himself in the face with his sheers.

"Parker!" he hiss-shouted, obviously surprised to see her.

She smiled and waited for him to stop hyperventilating. She was getting better at working out when was the best time to speak to Eliot, and the face he was making right now was his: "I am surprised and because I am Eliot I am angry not scared," face.

Eliot shut his eyes and worked himself back down to general Eliot levels of angry. "What are you doing here?" he demanded.

Parker thought very hard about that. And about what she wanted. She was good at getting what she wanted, and she was even better since Sophie had started teaching her about manipulation.

"What will you do to stop me from telling Hardison that you spend your nights pruning your roses?"

"Parker, that's not..." Eliot hesitated a moment and narrowed his eyes. "What are you thinking?"

Parker grinned.
