I love "Hope And Glory".

I've also been meaning to see "Bridge Over The River Kwai" for quite some time now.

Kwai is brilliant. I finally made the effort to catch up with it a few months ago and it deserves its reputation as one of the best.

I used to ignore "RIVER KWAI" for years, until I saw it earlier this year. I now have a new found appreciation for it.

I watched Monuments Men tonight. Its a bit unevenly paced. The first act almost feels like some kind of Oceans 11 prequel but it doesn't go there and at times the plot almost grinds to a halt. There is some comedy and some nicely handled moments of drama and is one of those films that claims to be 'based on a true story' but I don't know enough facts to judge how closely it follows real events.

Ice Cold In Alex is one of my favourite war films - but I have a genuine soft spot for submarine movies. (Sub-genre!)

I liked the movie . . . but like you, I found it unevenly paced. I feel that the movie's first half is the weakest. When a movie claims to be "based upon a true story", its NOT claiming to be historically accurate.

'Based on a true story' does indeed cover a multitude of sins. Famously, the film 'Fargo' opened under that banner and the closest it came to the truth was that a murder may once have happened in that town. ALL other details were fictional!

What I meant is . . . when a movie uses the term "based upon a real story", it's not claiming to be accurate. The movie is claiming that the idea of its plot came from a real event or person. "Based upon a real story" is pretty much telling the audience that it is not completely accurate.
