The Kite Runner, Khalid Hosseini, 2003. I'd been meaning to read it, and the author was scheduled to visit at the end of May. I didn't get to see him, but I'm glad I read the book--truly a classic. I've heard A Thousand Splendid Suns is just as good, if not better, so I'll have to put that on my list of must-reads.

Mysteries according to Humphrey by Betty Birney, 2012. The classroom hamster hears the Sherlock Holmes story of The Red-Headed League (we don't get to hear the solution, though).

Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle in Time, the graphic novel, adapted & illustrated by Hope Larson, 2012. I'll have to read the original novel sometime!

Pluto Files by Neil DeGrasse Tyson (and its Nova companion): recommend!

Natural History of the Cincinnati Region by Stanley Hedeen: OK, but was hoping for more. Hedeen is an excellent speaker, but the book doesn't reflect that.
