The library is fun!

I love the library's computers. They have something called a T1 line. Not sure the exact definition of that, but it means I don't have to wait for pictures to download. When you need your fix of Daniel and/or Cameron pics, you don't want to wait, do you ( Read more... )

T1's are great *grin* and the higher the T number, the better.

Say I currently have a 2Mbps broadband. This is the fastest available to me by my provider. I won't get 2Mbps out of it all the time, 'cos of latency and network traffic. Other people use the same lines for their broadband, so at peak times it'll be slower.

T lines are dedicated fiberoptic lines, that only run to whoever purchases it, so it's not shared. And they run at around 45Mbps. Sweet, huh?

We have T1 at work and it's the best! I have cable at home and I don't think I could ever go back to the stone age of dialup!

DSL is faster, but doesn't that mean your computer is always connected, so wouldn't that put it at risk for viruses and spyware all the time? I have dialup and it doesn't bother me except for pics not downloading fast. Hey, I remember the days before 56K modems when a 33.6 kpbs was fast. ;)

Even though the computers are 'always connected' with DSL and cable, there are firewalls, encryptions, and such to keep people out of your computer. You're no more at risk for viruses and spyware than at any other time whilst you are on the net.
I remember the days before internet! lol Our first computer was a Packard Bell 8088! And we thought we were 'da shit' with DOS!
