Is that like that one movie with the American guy who's not really that funny -- You make people tell the truth?

Which movie is that?

No. If I understand the ability correctly, I can only detect whether or not someone is telling the truth.

Oh. Well, only he had to tell the truth in the movie, but that'd be a boring superpower.

You're a lie detector? . . . Ok, then. My power is that I can fly. True or false?

Having to tell the complete truth all the time would get rather messy, I think.

I suppose you could think of me as one.

It's false, without a doubt, although there seems to be a small inkling of truth to your statement.

Perhaps you can change into something that has the ability to fly?

That's right. The island has bestowed a large number of people with unique abilities, or so it would seem. It's difficult, but it's best to suspend all disbelief in cases such as this.

Sheep-thing?

Not particularly. I'm just curious as to whether or not I'll be able to use the ability I've received.

[He raises an eyebrow at this. A sheep? Surprisingly enough, Maguri seems to be speaking the truth, however.]

You seem to be right. It is undoubtedly your "gift from home" and it doesn't belong to you in the least. Why would the island give someone else's sheep to you, I wonder? There again, even though we were promised a gift from home, the invitation didn't specify that it would be an item that belonged to us originally.

Yes, I can for the time being, and it would be quite useful if there were actually peopl lying to me.

Yes, that's right, Miss Terra.

I'm curious to know how often we as human beings tell the whole truth, and how often we are prone to exaggerate, withhold information, or flat out lie.

I think people are prone to keeping secrets, but in a place where all our memories are taken from us, that can't be helped.

Keeping secrets is one thing, I suppose.

There's nothing wrong with that...

Frequently enough, I imagine. Especially if you count white lies.

Yes, I believe white lies would count.

Even if spoken by someone who means well and has pure intentions, they are still false statements.

True. Although lies aren't always bad.

It may be as you say, but that doesn't change the fact that they are lies, one way or another.
