IT HAS BEEN SO LONG SINCE I'VE WANTED TO TALK ABOUT SPN :O

SPN 703, The Girl Next Door,

You were kind of amazing. Still horribly misogynistic, tacky and lame in parts but I'm feeling a lot of S1/2 finesse in blending Sam and Dean into the story, rather than the Winchesters reacting TO the story like commentators.

You are totally going to take me to a Pizza Hut, even though you are saying this time will ( Read more... )

tv show: supernatural, wank, violence against women 4 manpain, agápē: dean and sam are my platonic otp, fuck bachman, episode reaction: supernatural, thinky thoughts: supernatural, keep it classy with the misogyny spn

Oh jeez. Thank you! Really I'm not used to anyone paying attention to my tl;dr. ;) I don't think I'm dead on, but it's been so long since I've been curious and excited about wtf SPN is doing. I missed this feeling. &hearts

i ve read a few reviews on 7x03 out of curiousity to see how the rest of the fandom 'read' this episode, and the reactions were various, from positive to negative, from superficial naive flailing to more thoughtful wonderings, but i have to say this is the first one to make me pose and pay attention. thank u for sharing with us.

You have no idea how much this comment means to me, because I certainly feel like I have too many feelings and jumped conclusions most of the time due to being so excited. Especially when it's usually so difficult to separate liking Dean, to being curious if everything I previously liked about Dean was about to be torn up and flipped and used against me.

Again thank you so much.

Thank you! *blushes at "epic"* There are lot more eloquent and intelligent meta-writers in the heavymeta community than me for sure, but it means a lot that I don't sound crazy to everyone. Thank you so much!

This is a fantastic meta. It is unsettling after all the seasons of what is wrong with Sam, that we finally KNOW what is wrong with Sam and he is handling it, but we don't know exactly what is wrong with Dean and Dean is not handling it.

I was thinking the other day the the "sleep with Sam and die" cliche even carried over to Soulless Sam to some extent. In Unforgiven 5 of the women he slept with died. Robin, the dream guide, from The Man Who Knew too Much died. We don't know if she slept with Sam, but Soulless Sam was very hot and Robin had good eyesight, so it was a potential hookup and she did end up dead. We have only seen random hooker from The Third Man and Dr. Cara walk away at the end of a hookup with Sam. Just rambling, but Lord that man is NOT safe to have sex with.

Ha! Goes to show how sharp season 6 sticks in my memory. ;) I barely remember the titles of episodes in season six, but Dean's dark turning point and the finale stuck in me. But you're right! Woah, even when Sam isn't there to feel guilt about it, crap just keeps piling up and waits patiently for him to come back. Poor guy. Imagine how many more bodies there would have been in S1-5 with Soulless Sam and his supernatural insta-attack STD. Do you remember the fandom meme in S4/5 Sam should just sleep with Lucifer? ;)

Dean's been headed for and owed an epic breakdown to full on 9x9 types of crazy since birth tbh. I am fully prepared for Dean hate this season, and after re-watching s1 and 4 I am prepared to defend him to the bitter ennndddd. While still not wanting him within four parallel universi of me.

I agree that Dean has earned a good breakdown. Everything that has held him together emotionally has been torn away. Metas like yours make me feel good because way too many people are seeing Dean's actions as being the writers trying to destroy Dean as a character, instead of a demonstration of how troubled he truly is.

I want to see Dean meltdown and I want it to be messy and dark. Dean's life has been messy and dark and when he falls apart that is how I think it should go.

My only problem with Sam's road to the darkside was that the writers strike prevented the show from completely showing Sam's slide. Suddenly Dean was back and Sam was doing bad things and there was too little context. That hurt the character of Sam in fandom. This is doing Dean right. We have had six seasons of watching life chip away at Dean. Watching the outcome will be rewarding.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree re:Sam because I was rooting for him every second of his downward S3/4 spiral. And Sam S4 is the most well done continuity the show ever had (until S5. God I have problems with S5). I understand all of Sam's moves because every time seems like a callback to something else in S1-3. Even if he was doing things that were wrong, I saw why he was doing them. He was doing wrong things but for the right reasons, because Sam was never "evil." He was misinformed, crazy, scared, and angry. S3 did a great job of showing Sam's world view narrowing to hinge on Dean without Dean truly seeing what was happening. And S4 the fall out was everything I had hoped. I'm still mystified at fandom's reaction about Sam, because imo Dean got the short end of the stick re:hell. I swear we were watching two different shows ( ... )

I want to sit down and read this properly but I'm in the midst of moving house. (Ergh.)What I did get was fascinating and I think you make some really interesting points. On a slightly lighter note, too, I thought the final scene between Dean and Jacob was a nod to Kill Bill, when the Bride speaks to Vernita Green's daughter after killing her mother.
