Ask the Maker thread.
Here's my third tutorial for this year's Ask the Maker activity! As I've said before, these tutorials are going to be quick and simple. I have a lot of requests so this is the easiest wait for me to get everything done. As always, there are tons of examples to illustrate each step so I hope you find this little thing useful! :D
_______________
STEP 1: Layer > New Fill Layer > Solid Color
Color: #594e3b, set to screen 65% opacity.
Before
After
STEP 2: Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Color Balance
Midtones: +15, +5, -3
Shadows: -12, -2, +7
Highlights: -8, 0, -2
Before
After
STEP 3: Take
this texture by
likeravens, desaturate it and drag and drop it to your icon. Once you're there, there's no need to resize it, just play around with it until you think it can fit your cap. Mine looked like
this. When you're done, set it to screen, 45% opacity.
Before
After
STEP 4: Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Gradient Map. Create a new one that goes from left to right, from #b49164 to #413a31. Then set it to soft light, 100% opacity.
Before
After
STEP 5: Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Color Balance
Midtones: -15, -7, +7
Shadows: -8, -3, +2
Highlights: +2, 0, -3
Before
After
STEP 6: Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Gradient Map. Create a new one that goes from left to right, from #181818 to #cacaca. Then set it to soft light, 100% opacity.
Before
After
STEP 7: Use
this texture by
midnight_road and set it to soft light, 20% opacity.
Before
After
STEP 8: Layer > New Fill Layer > Solid Color
Color: #695849, set to screen 30% opacity.
Before
After
STEP 9: Duplicate that last layer and change the setting from screen to soft light, 30% opacity.
Before
After
STEP 10: Create a new layer and then go to Image > Apply Image. Then go to Image > Adjustments > Desaturate. After that, go to Filters > Gaussian Blur > Radius: 1px. Set this layer to soft light, 60% opacity.
Before
After
STEP 11: Now all you have to do is sharpen. I love super sharpened close crops so my process in these cases is quite simple. I just go to Image > Apply image and then to Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen. Then I just lowered the opacity of the sharpening layer to 70% and that's it!

I hope you find it useful! Please, let me know if you find any mistakes/typos! Thanks for requesting!
