Yes, tires deflating is normal. Happens to everyone. You want to check them every few days. I have no idea what's going on with your pump... are there any rubber seals that may be getting dry/sticky? (You pump, they heat up & expand and wedge something? I don't know, I'm just making this up.) Some pumps are completely serviceable.
25 miles is a pretty good haul if you haven't been on a bike in a while. I remember when I started cycling out here I decided to ride to work (about 16mi with hills) and was pretty exhausted when I got there. Don't forget to eat some starchy or sugary treats along the way, especially if you want to have energy on the way back.
I use the average speed from my cyclometer when I record rides, so it uses only the "rolling time" rather than the total elapsed time. Started doing that mostly because it takes away the temptation to run red lights when you're trying to improve your time on a familiar route. You don't sound comptetitive like that, though. :)
