(It seems like every time I think I'll be absent from LJ, I start posting even more. ?!)

I’m still working on playlists, and I have a new question:

Which songs blew you away the first time you heard them?

There are lots of songs I love … but that I didn’t love immediately. But some songs win me over instantly, for various reasons ( Read more... )

Gosh, it's been a looooong time since something I heard blew me away, but the most recent would probably be "Summertime" by Sublime. I like anthem-style songs, so "We Are The Youth of A Nation," while not a great or classic song, appealed to me when it came out. Ones that I clearly remember grabbing me were way way back: "So Alive" and pretty much everything else Love and Rockets did, "Sometimes Always" by Jesus and Mary Chain, that song by Morrissey that came out at the same time that is frustratingly escaping me right now....

Oh, you know, there's a cool one that did come out recently, I'm gonna have to get back to you on it...can't recall...grrr...!

"Boom" by Anjulie.

I'll have you know I updated iTunes to figure that one out. Now I can use my iPod again, so thanks! :-)

The Clockwise Witness by DeVotchKa got me the first time I heard it and it still does something crazy good for me. The plucking of the violin strings, the sousaphone, the cello... you can hear each instrument. They're an amazing band all around.

I Know You Want Me by Pitbull
Viva La Vida by Coldplay
Sometime Around Midnight by The Airborne Toxic Event
Love Story by Taylor Swift
Calling You by Blue October

I think I had that reaction to "Creep," too. Some others that stopped me in my tracks upon first hearing them were "Do You Realize?" by the Flaming Lips, "Hey There, Delilah" by the Plain White T's (I'm sick of it now, but did rush to buy it from iTunes after only hearing it once), and a song called "'74-'75" by The Connells.
